Die With Your Boots On

Yesterday my friend and I went to Salem for the day. It was so much fun! If you're planning a trip, my advice is:

  • to do some research ahead of time
  • take the train in if you can (parking is one of the seven layers of hell)
  • visit the area outside of Essex Street- the pedestrian mall. It's a lot less crowded and there are lots of cool things to do
  • keep in mind that this town in more about celebrating pop-culture Halloween than telling the story of men and women hanged unjustly.

I had fun shopping in Pickering Wharf. There are several pagan shops that carry a nice selection of Wiccan and souvenir items. There is also an awesome clothing and accessories shop called Die With Your Boots On. They carry lots of black clothing and jewelry that wink at death. I bought some awesome t-shirts, an evil eye ring (made locally), and some fun patches. Can't make it to Salem? You're in luck. They have an online shop!

Nap Time T-shirt
Count Blessings Not Calories T-shirt
Ouija Addams Dress
Bug Off Necktie
Bat Cuff Bracelet
Ribbons of Fate Pin
Brainstorming Scarf
The shop carries men's and women's clothing and shoes and there is much more in the actual store, but you'll still find some great stuff online. If you make it to Salem, be sure to stop at the Far From The Tree Cider Tap Room. Delicious!

We ended our trip with a stop at the new memorial Proctor's Ledge where it is believed the witch hangings took place. It's a small pull-off on a tiny residential street and very quiet. I like that there were no crowds of partying people there and it gave us time to think about all the people in the world who are murdered unjustly in the name of other's beliefs.
