Shivers of Delight

I keep changing directions in my head about what kind of miniature house I want to build and decorate. Will it be a shop, an apartment building, a room box for my spun cotton figures that I can hang on a wall??? AGH! I just can't decide. I do think I want to build it from foam core and paper mache though. That at least I'm certain of... I think. In the meantime, I'm still getting inspiration for the miniatures pieces I find. MiniMelange is an Etsy shop owned by Susan Clark. The witch hats caught my eye first. Do I want to build a witch hat shop? Maybe. I'm back in the mood to work on a miniature spooky house. I don't know if you follow any of the Facebook Halloween miniature groups but they're so inspiring! They're also daunting. The artistry is amazing.  I've had several stops and starts in the past few years and have realized I need to work on a small miniature house. The last one I purchased (a fantastic cottage that I now have on Facebook Marketplace) I realized was just too big. I walked around our house with a tape measure and couldn't find a singe spot where I'd be able to display it. So, I'm back to my plan of constructing my own design that will fit in a particular nook I have.  I'm going to post more miniature artists that specialize in Halloween and Gothic styles for the next few months and let's see where it leads us. It's been awhile since I featured any spooky miniatures. It's such a big category on it's own! Earlier this summer I purchased a miniature one-room cottage from Facebook Marketplace and had grand plans of turning it into a Witch's cottage by Halloween.... then we adopted two kittens. The kittens think the house is their's and until they get a little bigger I think I'll need to wait on my project. Oh, and our cat Scooter also put in a claim. As a little girl, I was obsessed with doll houses and can still remember the Christmas when I received one. It was made by my uncle and I was so excited. Typically Tuesdays are for haunting miniatures and I've been so busy lately I haven't had much time to research. When I came across Emily Herrera's tiny glass terrariums that housed equally tiny skulls I knew I had found a winner. The terrariums can be displayed in a haunted house or worn as a necklace. I love seeing all the pictures of tiny Christmas villages that are being posted on social media, but they never seemed quite right to me. I'm looking for a Christmas village that Tim Burton might create if he was so inclined. That must be why the miniature houses that Hope Terlecki makes caught my eye. She understands the concept of a creepy Christmas. Her houses are made from paper (Putz houses) and include a tea light. The shop is Bats in the Attic . I thought I'd feature some miniature houses today in case you're feeling like you want to create your own spooky doll house. The kits from Bird's Wood Shack are made by Nathan Bird. They're laser cut from Baltic Birch Plywood and although they're not 1:12 scale and may be more of a challenge to decorate, they're really fun to look at. If you're looking for a winter project, this could be the one!
