Scary Doll Portraits: Nicola Turville

"Yikes!" That's what I said when I first saw the scary doll portraits from Nicola Turville. You might think they were drawn by someone very unstable. I'm sure that's not the case- no offense, Nicola, but these are very creepy. That doesn't mean that I don't like them. In fact I love them! I secretly think all children can be a bit evil so these fit right into my world narrative. The shop is Nicola Turnville Art.

Once Beloved.
Do Something Witchy
Smoking Mermaid Baby
Poor Little Rosie Wrong in the Head
Baby with Knife
Do Dolls Feel Pain
These are squarely in the Dark Art genre. They're macabre with a touch of insanity and we're all, at some point, on the edge of crazy.

Tiny Terrors Tuesday: Monster of Miniature

Victoria Shaparina has created some spooky dollhouses you must see! They're probably out of most people's price range, but these are dollhouses to dream about. I'm going to show you several photos of each house. Shaparina's shop is Monster of Miniature if you'd like to see more photos.

These are spectacular. I would love to own either of them- well, if we're dreaming, I'd like to own both of them. Shaparina also has some miniature dolls available in her shop.

Dark Angels
Frankenstein's Bride
Flying Ghost Bride
Shaparina works in 1/24 scale which is half the size of a typical 1/12 scale dollhouse. I want to just step into these worlds, don't you?

Macabre Mix Monday

Just think, if you didn't have Macabre Mix Monday to look at you might not know what day it is! Right now, every day is Sunday to me because I have a subtle feeling that tomorrow might not be good. Do you get the Sunday dreads? It's not that I hate going to work, it's more like I'm not sure what unpleasantness the work week will present to me. This quarantine feels like a month of Sundays.

But, I digress. Please enjoy these macabre artists and forget about the world for awhile.

Spirit Conductors: Esoterismo Simon Mago

The search for signs of the afterlife often becomes more popular in times of great uncertainty. Much like the electronic ghost detectors used by ghost hunters today, spiritualists and mystics of the early 20th century also employed their own machinery for divination. Saverio Laterza is an artist recreating those early conductors of spirits. These are not actual antiques- though they look it.  Who knows? Maybe they'll work for you. The shop is Esoterismo Simon Mago.

Automatic Writing Planchette
Spiritca Ghost Lamp
Fata Morgana, Ritual Box
Spiritualist's Box
Memento Mori Skull Wall Hanging
Telepathic Spirit Communicator
Admit it. You want one of these. They look authentic and with a burning candle for light, you'll be in business in no time.

Memento Mori Prints: HHanlett

The artists making memento mori pieces should be doing very well about now. There was never a better time to reflect on death. Too gloomy? Well, Hannah Letourneau is bringing a little lightness into her memento mori prints with skulls that are portrayed with and as flowers and actually look happy about it. Who knows? Maybe the other side really is better. Her shop is HHanlett.

Ur Dead to Me, Original Illustration
Queen Anne's Face Lavender Giclee
Skull Flower Giclee Print

Memento Mori Original Illustration (also available as a print)
Queen Anne's Handshake Original Gouache
See, that wasn't so bad. Now your thoughts can turn to becoming a beautiful flower in a garden someday. Learn more about Letourneau at her website.

Dark Design: Murder of Crows Nesting Decor

Oh my gosh! I love the room accessories from Murder of Crows Nesting Decor. They're dark, gothic, and dripping with menace.  I wouldn't say they're evil looking, but I would be on my best behavior in a house that had them. They evoke power. The pieces are made from plexiglass so I imagine the moon light will filter through them beautifully.

Murder on a Limb Window/Door Hang
Murder at the Gate Room Screen
Thorn Headboard
Personalized Elegant Murder Wall Hanging
Ghost Woods Room Screen
Crow Ornaments
I would love one of the room screens, but more likely can imagine one hanging in my back porch window. Really I need then for all the windows in our house, so that could be a problem...
