Felted Skeletal Illustrations

I haven't seen many needle felted illustrations of skeletons. Maybe it's new to you too? Similar to embroidered pieces, the felted images from Black Heart Felts are darling skulls and skeletons of animals for the most part. They're nicely framed and ready to hang on your wall.

Bat Skeleton
Rabbit Skeleton
Snake Skeleton
Mermaid Skeleton
Skeleton Love Hands
Kangaroo Skeleton
I love these! The artist, Emily, can also do custom pieces.

Whimspookal Paper Clay

I read in the New York Times last week that paper maché is back in fashion, or maybe it was that we've already missed the paper maché trend. OK, I only read the headline, but in my house paper maché has always been in fashion. These days paper maché also seems to mean paper clay. I won't debate it with you, but I have questions. Today I'm featuring the whimspookal paper maché / paper clay sculptures of Terry Graber. They're delightful whatever you want to call them.

Devil Trick-or-Treater Figure
Harvest Moon Pumpkin Figure
Set of Two Pumpkin Trick-or-Treater Figures
Set of Three Skeleton Figures
Halloween Black Cat Candy Container
Miniature Pumpkin
If you're interested, the New York Times article is "Could Papier-Mâché Be the Perfect Medium for Our Times?". It's a good article (I did finally read it) and if you ever get a chance to visit the Bread and Puppet Theater museum in Vermont, go! The giant paper maché sculptures are amazing. Hmmm, that should probably be a post.

Some Spooky Assemblages and Such

Putting together pieces of this and that and creating something worth keeping, let alone selling, is a lot harder than it looks. Carey Burns has some spooky works of assemblage I like. She also has some wall plaques that are clever. Her shop is CareyBeeCrafts.

Handsome Devil Art Assemblage
Harvest Time Halloween Clock Assemblage
Vlad "The Impaler" Shrine
Skull and Stars Plaque
Deadly Wooden Blocks
Poison Woman Pendant
So now you're going to have to think twice before using the Marie Kondo method to just get rid of everything. What future art project will you be throwing away?!

Sophia Rapata: Eerie Watercolors

I last featured Sophia Rapata in 2016 and it's time to take another look at the eerie watercolor illustrations she's been creating. There is a bit more color in some of her paintings and maybe a touch more humor- if that's the right word. I wouldn't call them whimspookal, but some of them did make me grin. The shop is SophiaRapata.

Hermit Lady
Dance on the Totem of Jack-O-Lanterns
The Ghosts Came Out of the Fog
My Sweet Pumpkin Baby
Bat Lady Contraption, original watercolor
Haunting Birthday To You
If you read the description of her paintings she describes her materials as "watercolor, water-soluble graphite, ink & wine."

Etched Glass Spider Web Suncatcher
Glass Coffin & Bat Pendant
Moon Goddess Stained Glass Suncatcher
Coffin Shaped Air Plant Display
Stained Glass Planchette Suncatcher
Etched Moon Cycle Glass Pendant
The glass jewelry pieces are lovely, don't you think?

Haunting & Surreal Illustrations

Xavier is an artist in California who works in watercolor and dreams of ghosts. He describes his art as haunting and surreal. I love the dreamy (nighmarish?) atmosphere he creates. You'll find prints, originals, pins, and t-shirts in his shop BUILTFROMSKETCH.

Fevers, Giclée Print
Mire, Giclée Print
Harbinger, T-shirt
Goblin Print
Gage, Original Watercolor
Pumpkin Guard, Giclée Print
Personally, I like that you can get limited edition Giclée prints from Xavier.  So many artists are printing on photo paper, which I hate.

Can You Have Too Many Skulls?

So many of my favorite jewelry incorporates skulls that I don't even think twice about it when I wear them. I wonder if the spookless people find it peculiar. I hope so. Defy Jewelry in Thailand has oodles of skulls and anatomical jewelry to adorn yourself with. Check out the shop because they have hundreds of pieces and I'm only showing you six.

Skull Flower Earrings
Bird Skull Ring
Skulls on Bones Bangle Bracelet
Anatomical Heart Cufflinks
Hand-painted Skull Stud Earrings
Large Skull Necklace
I'm definitely partial to their hand-painted jewelry. I think I might need a few more skulls in my collection.
