Haunting Encaustic Paintings

I just learned about encaustic painting. Hot beeswax has pigments added to it and is used instead of paint. The effect is very dreamy. Encaustic artist Natalie Wood likes cemeteries, writing about serial killers, and chocolate. Her encaustic paintings will remind you of cemeteries and mourning. I love them. Wood uses photographs and layers of wax to create her paintings. She notes in her shop, Neverpress, that if you live in a freezing part of the country she can't ship her painting until it warms up or they'll crack- another reason to want one.

In addition to her paintings, Wood also has some mini books and a set of oracle cemetery cards.

Her shop is interesting and worth visiting. I've very curious about the mini books.
