August 1st!

It's time to buckle down and buckle up. Halloween is quickly approaching and if you're like me you're starting to get really serious about planning your activities, decor, and costumes. July was absolutely crazy and, although Halloween was always on my mind, I didn't have much time to get organized. I have so much to share with you!

✅ If you're not already following the really fun podcast By Pumpkin's Light that is hosted by Miranda of Spooky Little Halloween and Mike of All Hallows Geek you're going to want to get on that quickly. The episodes consist of interviews with a variety of people who are passionate about Halloween. I bring this up now, because I was interviewed for the latest episode and it was so much fun that I laughed through the entire interview. When I listened to it again, I didn't even remember saying those things and I laughed all over again. It's the same as when I have to do public speaking. My mouth moves and sounds come out but I never remember what I said. (That's usually for the best.)

However, if you have already listened to the episode you may remember that I mention a family curse and my aunt. She listened to the episode and texted me to tell me that I got the family curse a bit mixed up. It wasn't my grandmother's first child, but her second child that she thought a witch had cursed and it took place in the 1920s not 1950s. Of course, I should have known that. My aunt was also a bit disappointed that I didn't mention that she was beautiful- she is, and I'll add she is also very clever and artistic besides being the person who nurtured my Halloween fever. Go listen to By Pumpkin's Light.

✅ Now, I know that we're all running to Marshalls, Home Goods, Home Sense, Target, etc. every week to see what they have for Halloween decor and I have to say I'm seeing more of the same. That's not a bad thing necessarily, but when your house is already full of Halloween decor, you really have to hold out for something special. For the last couple of years, I've been going to Terrain's online Halloween shop to find really different things. I love the witchy cottage vibe Terrain has and although the pieces are more expensive than what you'd find in your local big box store, they're the type of things that you're going to want to use again and again and may even stay up year round or become Halloween heirlooms. If you're in this Halloween thing for life, you really should try to collect a piece or two every year that goes above and beyond the typical Halloween decor. Just a little unsolicited advice from me to you.

✅ Speaking of online shops, if you love giving kids really cool spooky things have you shopped at Witching Hour Baby- the shop with gear for Goth parents and kids? This weekend everything is 20% off so float on over there! I love buying my nieces things from this shop.

✅ And finally, in my last post I mentioned my side project Halloween Art Guide for Spellbound Collectors and wanted you to know that more artists are being invited and added to the website. It's all very exciting! It seems that several people have been thinking of cataloguing Halloween artists and I've learned that Jill Spinello of The Spooky Itinerary has a list of spooky places to visit in the U.S. as well as spooky artists and events to check out in the Exploratorium section. Jill's site is really cool and if you're planning a trip, you should study it closely before making your trip plans. I'll be doing that from now on.

Okay, thank you for letting me share all this random info. By the way, none of the places I've mentioned have asked or paid me to mention them. I don't accept those types of things because I have to be able to write what I truly feel.

Stay spooky and I'll be back soon to share with you some Halloween artists that have caught my eye.
