One of the things I loved about the band The Smiths was their dark subjects overlaid with jangly pop tunes. That's what I admire in so many dark artists as well. Death may be a dark subject, but so many artists treated it lovingly, with bright colors and humor. They gently help us face the things that scares us.
Sonia Lazo (San Salvador, El Salvador) is an illustrator who makes spooky things seem downright cheerful. I dig her blocky style and pastel colors. It's all good. You can find her prints at
Sonia Lazo Illustrator.
Laso has some t-shirts in her shop that you might like as well as a slew of other fantastic prints. I hope you'll pay her visit.
Dark and colorful art is my favorite form of expression and I love your description of how it helps us deal with things that scare us! Thank you for that!
