Zombie Fairy Tales

I was thinking about Christmas stories a few days ago and remembered the story of "The Little Match Girl" by Hans Christian Andersen. It's the tragic story of a poor child who sells matches on the street and slowly freezes to death while having visions of a beautiful Christmas. You remember it, right? The story fits my mood this Christmas but rather than sink into a deep depression I thought "what if the little match girl was able to get her revenge?" Now you have a story.

Kevin Richey must have been thinking along those lines too a few years ago when he wrote Revenge of the Little Match Girl. I haven't read it yet, but it's a twist on the well-known tale where the little girl wakes up as one of the undead. I like where this is headed.

Richey has written or re-written a bunch of fairy tales to include the undead with titles like: "Blood Red Riding Hood", "Sleeping Beauty Wakes in Hell", "The Little Mermaid of Death", and so many more.

The short stories are available as digital downloads for less than a dollar each on Amazon. There are twelve stories all together. If you prefer to read from paper, you can purchase the complete collection Zombie Fairy Tales as a paperback.

Reader reviews warn that these are very gory stories so maybe this isn't something for the kids, but I know many adults who would love a copy. It might be the perfect book to curl up with by the fire while you wait for Krampus to arrive.
