It's Not Over Yet

Whew! This month has been great. I was able to hit most of the Halloween events I had been interested in. I was afraid that last night's trick-or-treaters might be few in number and I was getting nervous when I hadn't had a single door knock until 6:30, but all ended well. I had about the usual number of ghouls- surprising for a Monday night. I love how it always starts with adorable toddlers in furry costumes and ends with hooded-teenagers perfumed (a little too heavily) with marijuana. Ha!

But, there's more. Today is the beginning of the two-day celebration of the Day of the Dead. It's what Halloween is all about really.  As much as I like the spooky ghosts and goblins, I don't want to forget to celebrate my family and loved ones who have died. Tonight will be quiet, but I'll light candles around my family altar and maybe eat some of their favorite foods or watch a movie I know they loved. It will be simple, but I'll be thinking of them.

Just in case, you want to start preparing a family altar, I suggest you visit the shop MexicanSugarSkull.com. They carry a full array of hand-crafted Day of the Dead items and have good information about celebrating Day of the Dead.

The one thing I long for on this website is the giant 6-foot paper mâché skeleton. One of these days....

Giant Skeleton

You'll also find milagros, sugar skulls, miniature skeletons, and other folk art. You're going to find something you love here.

P.S. Don't forget to make some notes about things you want to accomplish or improve for next year's Halloween. It's not too early to start planning. What?! Don't look at me like that.
