I should be writing a post about
Peter Cushing today because he died on August 11, 1994. Cushing is remembered as one of the great horror actors along with Christopher Lee and Vincent Price. From what I've read of Cushing, he was a gentle soul and good friend to many and loved pleasing his audience with his portrayals of Baron Frankenstein and Dr. Van Helsing among many other horror roles. Cushing's career stretched from 1939 to 1986. He had a role in
Star Wars too if you recall and may have a post-death cameo role in the new
Star Wars movie coming out in December. He also has a
pub named after him. That, my friends, is a legacy.
While looking for something to post about Cushing, I came upon a paper artist that does amazing work with a razor blade. The shop is called
The Moonlight Muse on Etsy and the artist behind the work is Marcey Mercado. It features beautiful, spooky images hand-cut from paper. The first image I came across was of Peter Cushing. It's stunning!
These pieces are cut from one sheet of paper. I imagine this would be very meditative. Others might find it frustrating, but either way you have to admire the skill.
Mercado also does paper assemblages that just blow me away.
The shop takes custom orders. Maybe you can request something special in time for Halloween? Head over to the
Facebook page to keep track of Mercado's latest work.
Oh! And don't forget to drink a toast to Peter Cushing.
